"But seeing her face, the tears that fell, and knowing that I'd ruined her life... It... changed things..." He shifted uncomfortably. "Later that day, Dad sat down by me, praising my bravery. He knew that whole thing had affected me and wanted to help, but nothing he said could make it any better. Regardless of my intentions, I had killed that boy. I ruined that mother's life. And I have to live with that." David looked back up, a determined expression over his face.

"And that's why I won't ever take the life of another person! It's different if they're monsters. But people have lives. Monsters exist only to ruin them."

"David, your heart is in the right spot." Lisra said softly. "But eventually, you will have to go back on that vow. As the Hero of Legacy, you have to do what is right for the Overworld and her people." David shook his head.

"No, Lisra. I'm not going to compromise on that. I won't become another person's monster." he growled. She looked at him sorrowfully.
