how to get into mining?

So i want to get into mining, but i know nothing about gemstone mining, and currently am hotm 4 (halfway to 5) so what’s the best way to go about mining? stay in the dwarves mines till hot m 5 then do gemstone commissions till 6 and buy a gauntlet? what gear do i need? effective gemstone mining stuff, etc
