A good help request gives other server owners something they can reproduce.

Copy this checklist into your post:
  • Server software and exact build: Paper, Spigot or another distribution.
  • Minecraft version, Java version and relevant plugin versions.
  • What you expected to happen, and what happened instead.
  • The smallest set of steps that reproduces the problem.
  • The first relevant console error, with a little context before it.
  • What you have already tried, and whether it changed the result.
Before changing the live server
Take a backup of the world, plugins and configuration. Verify that you can restore it. Reproduce the problem on a separate copy where possible, then change one thing at a time. Keep the original configuration so you can compare it.

Before sharing logs
Remove passwords, API tokens, private player information and connection addresses you do not want public. Avoid posting a full private configuration when a short relevant section will do.

For performance problems, describe player count and when the slowdown occurs. A capture while the problem happens is more useful than a quiet-server screenshot.
